Zaffron Banana Leaf is a casual dining restaurant specializing in South Indian cuisine. It is a first-time partnership between First Gourmet and Indian celebrity chef Dr. Chef Damodharan, better known as Dr. Chef Damu to his legions of fans.
With the expertise of Indian cuisine operations from First Gourmet, together with Dr. Chef Damu’s specialty in Chettinad fare, the two powerhouses worked hand-in-hand to design and conceptualize the menu and recipes for the restaurant.
Look forward to centuries-old traditional authentic South Indian recipes, as well as dishes that have been tweaked to suit local taste buds.
First Gourmet Pte Ltd, with four restaurant brands, was set up with the aim of developing innovative and exciting F&B concepts for both the Singapore and international markets.
The company’s first restaurant Prata Wala, opened in Sep 2009, is a quick-service, Halal-certified Indian restaurant providing delicious and value-for-money Indian cuisine in a clean and chic setting. Ottoman Kebab & Grill is an intimate and charming Turkish restaurant with delicious Turkish specialties on the shavarma and shish kebab grills. First Gourmet’s multi-award winning North Indian restaurant brand Zaffron Kitchen marries cosmopolitan modern settings with the best of north Indian cuisine. The restaurant has garnered numerous awards; it was listed in the Michelin Guide Singapore 2016 & 2017 Bib Gourmand, and received World Gourmet Summit 2015 Awards of Excellence – Restaurant of the Year. In May 2017, First Gourmet opened its South Indian restaurant Zaffron Banana Leaf, of which famed Indian celebrity chef Dr. Chef Damu is a co-brand owner.
Hailing from Chennai, India, Dr. Chef Damu is no stranger to the Indian media from around the region. Specializing in Southern Indian Cuisine, the veteran culinary personality has bagged countless awards and even has a Guinness World Record under his belt.
He first found his calling in teaching and counts many hoteliers as his students. Dr. Chef Damu then went on to become the first Indian Chef to receive a PhD in Hotel Management and Catering Technology, and has written more than 26 cook books.
Today, he travels extensively around the globe for inspiration and has just co-opened Zaffron Banana Leaf with First Gourmet.
